0-3 months

In the first few months a baby appreciates things most which they can look and listen to since their vision is blurred and movement is limited.

3 – 12 months

In the first couple of month’s of this stage babies are learning to grasp and reach for toys. Toys should be safe for chewing since everything goes into the mouth! They are learning about their environment through all their 5 senses – sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. They are also learning the concept of cause and effect and love repetition. In the last six months of this stage babies dexteritiy is growing and they now enjoy making noise, banging toys together etc. They may also start to be mobile – crawling and possibly walking.

12 - 24 months

Play now involves lots of experimentation and seeing the consequences of actions. Toddlers also like to do role play. They enjoy running, jumping, climbing and exploring.

2 - 3 yrs

The toddler is energetic, independent and assertive. Toys that challenge the developing mind are great, but they will need your gentle assistance at times. They love to start helping you do jobs. Building up blocks and of course, knocking them down is another favourite. Their vocabulary is increasing and they love to sing songs.

3 – 5 yrs

This age group love to make believe and role play. They also love to create things – buildings, craft, cooking etc. Their problem solving skills are improving and they love puzzles and simple games that give them some challenge and sense of achievement.
